Green energy in Corfu
Corfu has no power production plants and gets all its electricity from the mainland. There are some people who have installed solar panels and/or small wind turbines on their houses, but that's still a very small percentage. If you are interested in such solutions, have a look at our page on green energy by i-nrg.
The Greek state, under the banner of "Green development", have announced that there are plans to build a huge wind-turbine park in the sea northwest of Corfu, among the Diapontia islands. There has been much concern and protest from local people and organizations, claiming that such an investment would be catastrophical for both the environment and the local economy. You can read more on our blog on the Corfu wind farm. Another website with lots of information on the effects of such wind turbines and the actions undertaken by the local people can be found at www.aioliko.com.
