Walking in Corfu with International Tours
International Tours were the first travel agency to organize walking and cycling holidays to Corfu twenty years ago. Nowadays they offer a wide variety of active holidays including walking, cycling, bird-watching and theme holidays such as historical walks, botany walks, sportive mountain bike tours, golf, horse-riding and much more.
It is also possible to combine a holiday in Corfu with some days on the other Ionian islands of Lefkas and Paxos or to the mainland of Epirus to visit the Zagoria villages, Syvota and Parga.
One of their programs for a week of beautiful walking on Corfu for groups is called "Olive and Sea walks".
The Corfu Trail, Olive and Sea walks
The Corfu Trail is a long-distance footpath of approximately 220 km, which runs the length of Corfu Island: from the white cliffs near Arkoudillas at Corfu’s southernmost tip to the wild coastline of Cape Agia Ekatirini near St. Spiridon Lagoon at its northernmost point! The trail meanders through all the island’s rural districts and avoids developed areas, takes in beauty spots, biotopes, beaches, picturesque medieval villages, monuments, monasteries and diverse landscapes.
From the Corfu Trail we selected for small groups 6 walks combining continuously the most beautiful variety of seashores, landscapes, and villages covering all Corfu island:
-
South (lake, dunes, cedar forest and a medieval mountain village)
-
Central North-West (medieval villages, walk with a donkey and views)
-
North-West (Byzantine Castle and Roman footpath, sandy beach)
-
North-East (with traditional fishing boat / caique and picnic, coastal footpath)
-
North (Mount Pantokrator to Cape Ekatirini through a gorge)
-
Corfu Town (an Unesco World Heritage site) guided cultural tour
The terrain varies, with rough footpaths, cobbled mule paths, dirt and gravel tracks and a very few minor roads and sandy and pebble beaches. At springtime the island will be full of flowers and orchids, while in autumn the “Indian summer” starts in Corfu. For lunch we select excellent traditional tavernas and there is almost always opportunity to swim at the end of the walk.
